This is a vintage Reed & Barton Francis I sterling silver pierced serving spoon with the old mark. The hallmark features the eagle, an’R’, and a lion, which are the old mark, and are considered better than the newer ones. The pattern has been discontinued. This Renaissance-inspired flatware pattern has an ornate handle that is decorated with voluminous scrollwork, leaves, blossoms, and fruit. The spoon has 3 tines, and measures 8 3/8 inches long. It has been used, and is in excellent condition.

Francis 1st by Reed & Barton is a very desirable fancy pattern. The primary decoration is a sumptuous bunch of fruit suspended from the top of the handle. A flower is further on down the handle. There are seven piercings in the bowl to allow unwanted juices to flow through. Back is emphasized with various scrolls surrounding the unmonogramed cartouche. Reed & Barton’s early hallmarks and Sterling are present as well.
