138pc Reed & Barton Francis I Sterling Silver Flatware Set with Box
Reed & Barton Francis I Sterling Silver Flatware Set with Box. All one set that was put together over generations by one family, well loved and well taken care of. An American Classic, Francis 1st by Reed & Barton continues to be as popular today as it was when it was introduced in 1907. The grandeur of this unique sterling silver pattern, designed by Ernest Meyers, is enhanced by its fifteen different fruit-and-flower clusters. Each handle bears one of these exquisitely detailed vignettes. After 112 years this pattern was retired in 2019. The Pieces I have in this set are listed below. Every piece is marked Reed and Barton Sterling, maybe half of the set has the older R Sterling with lions on each side mark as it was bought by the previous generation of the family this set came from and they added to it in about the 1980’s. 23 Serving Pieces listed below, I have one of each of the following serving pieces unless there is a number indicating there are more than one of those pieces: (1) 7 7/8″ Solid cold meat serving fork (1) 10″ Lasagna Server Sterling handle/Stainless blade (1) 10″ Pastry Server with stainless blade (1) 8.25″ Pierced Solid piece tomato server (1) 9.5″ Solid Salad serving fork (1) 5 5/8″ Solid cream ladle (2) 6 7/8″ Solid gravy lady (these are slightly different, one 1/8″ shorter with wider bowl) (1) 6″ Pickle/Olive fork (3) 6.25″ Shell shaped Sugar Spoons (3) 7 1/8″ Flat handled Master Butter Knife (4) 8 3/8″ Tablespoon (Serving Spoon) (2) 8 3/8″ Pierced Tablespoon (Serving spoon) (1) 4 5/8″ Youth Fork (1) 4 5/8″ Youth Spoon Here is a list of the other pieces (18) 7.75″ Forks (all Old mark) (18) 6 1/8″ Salad Fork (Reed and Barton mark) (18) 5 7/8″ Teaspoons (all Old mark) (14) 5 7/8″ Flat handle butter spreader (old mark) (13) 7.75″ Iced Tea Spoons (Reed and Barton Mark) (10) 9 3/8″ Modern Hollow knife 4″ sterling handle, stainless blade (marked Reed and Barton mirror steel sterling handle) (8) 9 5/8″ Modern Hollow Knife 4″ sterling handle, stainless blade (0lder knives) (8) 6″ Round bowl soup spoon/Cream soup spoon (old mark) (8) 5 5/8″ Oyster forks (Reed and Barton mark) This is a very clean, very versatile set with tons of serving pieces. This makes for (8) 9pc place settings or (13) 6pc place settings with 3 slightly different knives or (18) 4pc place settings with very slightly mix matched knives that nobody would notice The extensive set comes in the large solid Oak arts and crafts style box shown, there are a few blemishes to the finish of the box but overall it’s in good condition. There are no bends, dents, deep scratches, or significant flaws with this silver ware set. Francis 1st flatware was produced by Reed & Barton Silversmiths. The original backstamp featured a lion, an eagle, and the letter “R”; Commonly called “Eagle-R-Lion”. In about 1950 a new backstamp came into use which reads “Reed and Barton”. This flatware was made in the US and is warranted by its production company for 100 years. Three American Presidents (Wilson, Truman, and Eisenhower) have owned the Francis 1st tableware pattern.
