Reed & Barton Francis I Sterling Old Mark Stuffing Spoon, 14 Pat. June 25 1907
This piece is rare in a flatware collection and is stunning in the Francis I pattern. Please read the following description for details. With the price of silver climbing, a weighty piece like this will always be a good investment over the years. This was referred to as a “stuffing spoon”, but also used for any large serving needs. The button was used as a “dish stop” to prevent the spoon from falling into the serving piece. Bears the Reed & Baron Old Mark of an eagle-R-lion along with the word “sterling”. Also bears the patent plaque with date of June 25, 1907. There is no monogram. Very heavy and substantial. Weighs approximately 8 3/8 ounces on my scale (248.06 grams) 13 3/4 ” long and 2 1/2″ wide at the bowl of the spoon. The condition is in what I call Estate Condition. Remarkable for it’s age. Minor scuffs from usage. For a little history, This beautiful Francis I pattern was designed by Ernest Meyer for Reed and Barton in 1906. Francis I is one of the most desirable silver flatware patterns ever produced with its elaborate Acanthus and Fruit design on the handle.
