1950 REED & BARTON ROCOCO REVIVAL KING FRANCIS HEAVY ORNATE FOOTED COFFEE POT. The Reed & Barton story began in 1824, when Isaac Babbitt created a new metal alloy – “Britannia metal” – in his Taunton, Massachusetts pewter shop. Babbitt joined forces with craftsmen Henry G. Reed and Charles E. Barton to produce this innovative, higher quality pewter ware. When Babbitt encountered financial difficulties, Reed & Barton offered to take control and began manufacturing products under their own names. The fledgling company’s goods reflected uncompromising standards of excellence, starting with its initial silverplate products and extending to the exquisite sterling silver creations that resulted from the silver discoveries of the late 1800s. Is one of the most sought after designs ever created by the original Reed & Barton company. This coffee pot is in excellent condition with no dents, monogram, breaks, or repairs, light scratching mostly from storage. The interior is remarkably clean, retaining nearly all of its original finish and showing no signs of buildup or corrosion. The exterior is equally impressive, with bright mirrored plating and beautifully detailed, sculpted solid castings adorning the body, handle, and cropped borders, enhanced throughout by a rich, soft patina. It measures 11 1/2″ to the top of the finial, 10″ front to back, 6 1/2 side to side, and weighs 3.1 lbs. Stamped: Reed & Barton 1650.
