Reed & Barton Silver Plate #1687 King Francis 12 Cake Stand Plain Top Htf
Beautiful vintage silver plate cake stand made by Reed & Barton. The pattern is called “King Francis” and was made for a long period of time; it has a scrolled design with clusters of pineapple and other fruits around the rim. The engraved R & B backstamp is on the bottom of the foot and includes the ware number #1687. This piece measures 12″ in diameter across the platform and 4 1/2″ in diameter across the foot, and 5 in height. It has the “plain” platform, with no engraved decoration, and is very hard to find. I gave it a decent polish and it came out very nice, although some might want to get into the detailed fruit clusters with a finer instrument, and the pedestal still has some tarnish. There is light scratching throughout, but the only actual wear to the plate is on the underside, where there are a few black spots. There is no wear to the top of the platform, and this is a gorgeous old piece that could be used not just for serving, but for displaying decorative objects as well!
